3 things I can’t stop thinking about this week

I need to get something off my chest, all the time. Writing down what bothers you can do the trick, an advice I’ve largely ignored my entire life despite intuitively believing in its effectiveness. Here’s to not ignoring wise advice, de-bothering my brain weekly + writing more (for fun).

#1 is Scaffolding episode of How to with John Wilson

This master-class in metaphorical storytelling has been on my mind last week a lot. Maybe it’s because I’m back in NYC after a long break and I see scaffolding everywhere again (from my balcony! outside my coffee shop! it’s everywhere!). Maybe it’s because I ran into elaborate that other scaffolding John Wilson is talking about some time ago and it got to me. Regardless of your personal relationship with these omnipresent structures, I guarantee that episode is well worth your time.

#2 is Shrimp katsu sandwich from Katsu Sando in Los Angeles

Who am I kidding, I can’t forget the Mushroom one either. There’s something about that combination of perfectly cooked shrimp, extras and mayo that makes you forget about the fall of democracy. Did I mention that this weekly list will be extremely random? Expect nothing.

#3 is The casino fight scene from Blade Runner 2049 (major spoiler alert if you click on the link, but no spoilers in the writeup)

I obsess over different scenes from this movie on the reg and for some reason this week my attention was drawn to the casino fight. How people create something new and that cool is a mystery I’m most drawn to, so the ultimate dream is that one evening I’ll be able to sit down with Roger & James Deakins and Denis Villeneuve to dissect how they came up with every element in that scene and why. For now, I have to be content with this podcast episode.
